"Hey, Alexa, I'm headed to work." With that statement, all the lights in the house turn off, the thermostat adjusts to an empty home, a Google map provides the quickest route to work, circumventing a traffic accident, and a favorite drink order is sent to Starbucks for pickup in 7 minutes. Along the drive, a morning playlist of music begins, and the Google map automatically adjusts for any changes in traffic. 

Before, this was similar to The Jetsons' super-futuristic, almost impossible-to-imagine world. Rosie, the robot maid took care of the kids and commanded the house to cook dinner, clean the floors, and do other tasks we all wish would be automated in our homes.

Some people thrive in bustling cityscapes and thus live in those energetic neighborhoods. Some prefer a quiet space to escape the hustle and bustle of the populated areas, which offers frequent escapes to nature. And some places provide both. This is easily why Omaha is a sought-after city where people flock to live. I spent my life here in Omaha and understand daily life in this city. More specifically, my home turf has been northwest Omaha. Northwest Omaha was once defined as anything west of 72nd Street and as far west as the rural areas of 132nd and 144th Streets. Then, you had a few miles of cornfields to drive before you got to the remote, small town of Elkhorn. Boy, haven’t things dramatically changed in that timeframe! It is now a seamless urban transition to Elkhorn; even Bennington sees this same absorption! So today’s definition of northwest Omaha starts from 90th and expands as far west as 222nd, with its north/south running from about Dodge St, all the way north to Highway 36 in Bennington.
